New Game Ideas for Pocketpair if Nintendo Shuts Down Palworld ToddMitchell, September 19, 2024September 19, 2024 They’re all just Nintendo IP with guns. Like Palworld. Well, it finally happened. Nintendo’s reaper-assassin attorneys set their sights on Pocketpair over Palworld, which players know more commonly as “Pokémon with guns.” I haven’t read the suit, and I don’t know anything about the patents Nintendo believes were infringed upon. But let’s be honest: it’s difficult to imagine Pocketpair beating the allegations. Pocketpair says it doesn’t know exactly why Nintendo is suing, but it will do its utmost for fans, “and to ensure that indie game developers are not hindered or discouraged from pursuing their creative ideas.” As a thank you from an indie developer, I came up with some creative ideas Palworld might like to pursue when it’s freed up from litigation. I’m not saying any of these ideas are better than Palworld, but I’d argue none are significantly worse. Splatoon, but the paint is bullets Visit a colorful post-apocalyptic Earth where cute animal-human hybrid races compete for turf by riddling one another with NATO rounds. As I sat and thought about this one I started wondering, is Splatoon substantially different from GoldenEye in Paintball Mode? Kirby but he eats projectiles and turns into firearms Uh-oh! Dream Land has been overrun with small arms, each with its own attack. But Kirby’s too round to run, so he blasts back! Later, the studio can tackle a Pinball Land shoot-‘em-up which, admittedly, does sound pretty good. Shootris Differently shaped Soviet rifles fall from the heavens in this retro line-clearing puzzler. As a bonus, set sights on Shootris 99 which is just Fortnite. The Legend of Zelda, but Link’s bow is tactical and fully automatic Ganon picked the wrong neighborhood to commit burglary in. In this beautiful 3D crafting adventure, Link invokes Hyrule’s new Castle Doctrine law with infinite combinations of compound hunting bows, rail-mounted accessories, and super douchey tactical outfits. Open discussions with real-world gear manufacturers, and you’ve got yourself a real cash Moblin on your hands. Grand Theft Auto without cars (which is Animal Crossing with guns) Tom Nook just ripped off his last customer. Welcome to your new village. No one had ever even seen a gun here until you stepped off the train, armed to the teeth. Sure, you could quietly pick out a humble plot of land and get a job, but you could also declare yourself the new king of all you survey. You’d like to see one of these slingshot jockeys try to stop you. Wii Sports with dual-Wiipons Challenge your friends to a double-Uzis match on a tennis court, a baseball diamond, at a bowling alley, on a golf course, or in a boxing ring. Interestingly, this would be among the least dangerous Wii games ever developed in terms of real-life TV and household damage. Mario Kart, but it’s basically Twisted Metal with lovable children’s characters Get ready for Rainbow Road-rage. This Carmageddon-like would feature fully destructible environments, drive-bys, and police chases, all with cute little racers suspiciously similar to the household characters you already know and love. No more banana peels and ghosts, these drivers are spitting hundreds of Bullet Bills per minute, and they’ll do anything for first place. It will be interesting to see how Pocketpair fares in court (I suspect it won’t get that far), but I would expect to see them receive the smackdown of a lifetime. It’s cute that they took a page from Tim Sweeney’s this-is-for-the-indies playbook, but I’d argue we all felt pretty free to pursue our creative ideas just fine. We just can’t pursue Nintendo’s creative ideas. Share this:FacebookXLike this:Like Loading... Discover more from CodeWritePlay Subscribe to get the latest posts sent to your email.
